Touch of Love

Dare had tried everything he could to get by even at the expense of him forfeiting school to help his family through these stormy times. His Mom had been sick for some time now and the hospital bills are piling begging to be paid. He knows no rich Uncle or Aunt, he has no one of good standing to help. Yet, he lived by working like a jackal to see his mother well because he believed her health is paramount as she was of great importance to him.

He rarely eats as he ought to, even his clothes appeared worn to the extent that he could be mistaken as an unkempt person. As he made his way to their rented apartment after a long day of intense manual labor, his stomach grumbled loudly.

He was hungry and undeniably tired as he couldn’t seem to feel his leg. The smell of freshly baked bread filled his senses putting the tiredness at bay but his stomach grumbled loudly.

He didn’t know when his legs moved toward the fresh smell. He came back to his senses when he felt his knuckle on the door but the deed had been down. He heard heavy footsteps moving towards him from the closed door.

“What was I thinking?” he murmured looking for a way to escape.

Then it opened, Dare’s eyes popped wide because of the huge figure standing in front of him.

“What can I do you for? Sir” the deep baritone voice from the huge man rang through the quiet street.

“I…I” Dare swallowed finding it difficult to think straight, then his belly grumbled abruptly.

The huge man who seemed to be a chef, if we assumed that the big fluffy cap on his head is a chef cap chuckled and quickly avoided his gaze as he hid the smile when he saw Dare’s crimson face.

Slowly, Dare drew away from the door but he was immediately stopped and directed into the house.

You could assume what happened…

But for you guys with the strange but creative thinking, no he wasn’t murdered or sliced into the money-making barbecue.  He was cared for with a slice of bread and jam and a fresh change of clothes with a left-over package.

Many believe that a piece of love makes the world go round and the lack thereof turns it upside down. Isn’t it true? Love to many comes as a charity, an odd expression for the people of Old. In this time, it comes in many ways even as the fruit of the spirit. Love also goes a long way even far beyond our thinking. A touch of love covers a multitude. The slice of bread Dare had eaten gave him lasting energy to work for like 2 more days. The left-over package he took home wasn’t shared for his family alone but also with his aunt and uncle and another struggling neighbor.

When the end does come, the Lord will want to know if when he was hungry you gave him meat, when he was thirsty you gave him to drink, when he was a stranger you took him in, when he was naked you clothed him. He will want to know if when he was sick or in prison and you visited.

(paraphrased from Matthew 25: 35-36)

What He meant by he is somebody, anybody.

In as much as you have done this to somebody, you have done it unto God…(Matthew 25:14)

And if you haven’t, you can still extend that touch of love. It’s in you because God has placed it there.
